Shing Jit graduated from the University of Hull in 1988 with an LL.B (Hons.). He was called to the English Bar by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 1990 and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1991. Prior to joining Templars Law LLC as a consultant, Shing Jit had previously been a partner of Haridass Ho & Partners and a director of Central Chambers Law Corporation and Sim Law Practice LLC. He has been a legal advisor to the Association of Professional Investigators, Singapore (APIS) since 2002. He served as the legal advisor to the Board of Advisors of the Singapore Boys’ Brigade Alumni in 2005.
With a strong background in commercial law, Shing Jit’s practice is focussed on advising clients on their business needs and commercial contracts, as well as assisting clients in the registration of trade marks in Singapore and elsewhere. He specialises in advising clients on all types of commercial contracts and collaborations, and has advised clients on the various aspects of commercial law, in the areas of business, the sale of goods, shipping, technology, and intellectual property. He is regularly consulted in relation to business organisation and relationships, and matters concerning company management, operations and administration. Whilst a partner at Haridass Ho & Partners, Shing Jit was also joint head of the firm=s Intellectual Property and Technology Practice.
For more than 20 years, Shing Jit has also represented and advised various clients, in the capacity of in-house counsel, ranging from internet start-ups to private companies (one providing total technology solutions and another, providing marine cable-laying and repair services) to a large multi-national corporation in the global marine and offshore industry, and the industry liaison office of a tertiary educational institution in matters of the administration, licensing, and commercialisation of bio-medical, life, and physical science research projects. In the role of in-house counsel, he has been consulted on all aspects of the clients’ businesses and processes from within the client’s organisation.
Outside of the office, Shing Jit served with the Singapore Armed Forces, initially as a Military Police Investigation Officer with the Special Investigation Branch of the Singapore Armed Forces Provost Unit (now known as the SAF Military Police Command), and subsequently as a reserve Infantry Provost Logistics Officer, until 2013. He also actively serves in the teaching ministry at the St. Andrew’s Cathedral, volunteers as a bugle instructor with the 12th Singapore Company Boys’ Brigade, and is involved in band projects that bring the joy of music to assist in and support various church, charity and community causes.
